Employers Liability
Employers Liability Insurance provides cover in respect of injury or disease to employees.
The policy provides cover for the legal defence costs and the resulting settlement award.
The type of business activities undertaken may indicate the potential risk – for example, working at height or depth may indicate a theoretically higher insurance risk.
For Employers Liability, limits of protection start at £5m (the minimum allowed by law), but £10m is currently the norm, with higher amounts available upon request. Recent changes by the Government to injury settlement calculations, may result in requests for higher limits of protection.
Employers should be aware that it is not just PAYE employees for whom Employers Liability cover is required. Considerations should be made in respect of self employed persons, labour only sub-contractors, work experience persons, plant operators. etc
