Green Card / Driving in Europe

The United Kingdom (UK) left the European Union (EU) on the 31st January 2020, and the subsequent Withdrawal Agreement expired on the 31st December 2020.

Customers driving in the EU from the 1st January 2021 will now need to carry a physical Green Card in order to be driving legally.

Customers should contact Trade Protect (01276 423 155) to order a Green Card from the insurer. This will apply to all Motor Policies (including Private Car, Commercial Vehicle, Motor Fleet etc).

We would strongly recommend that you give us at least a month’s notice of requiring a green card, in order to give insurers sufficient time to have this issued. If the time is shorter, we will, of course, endeavour to obtain the paperwork for you, but in these very strange times, we cannot guarantee it, , so would recommend as much notice as is possible.

Some insurers will issue annual Green Cards, specific to the vehicle. Please enquire with us if this is possible with your insurer. It may avoid you having to contact our office each time you travel, but you will need to remember to order one after each policy renewal and/or if you change your vehicle.
